Issue resolved. I had incorrectly set option f4 assign AE-L/AF-L. Feeling s-i-l-l-y. Thank you Longshadow for your prompt response. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

So the lesson learned is to save your settings to a card before sending your camera out for service so you can reload the settings when it is returned.
