Thursday afternoon just after 3 PM I was going over my newest camera, a Sony RX10 iv, learning its settings, knobs and controls. And looked out the door to see if there were any birds or even squirrels to photograph.
This hawk was sitting on the wall of the top terrace of my hillside backyard. It was partly blocked by a small dead tree in one of the potted plants. I snapped a couple of shots and started easing slowly out and closer, taking a couple of shots at each stage.
At the far edge of the pool I got this open hole to take shots through as the hawk turned its head to keep track of me and the light hit the eye just right.
I took several shots, then when I tried to slip the last few feet to the wall of the main lawn terrace 20 feet from the hawk, it took off westbound.
