Will my regular XQD card reader work with the CF Express card or do I need a reader jusr for the CF Express card?

You need a CFexpress reader-different format.

That information should be on your card reader or if not within the specification of your exact card reader.
I use a Sony card reader which reads both the XQD (as supplied by Nikon with a new Z6 and identical to the one you posted a pic of the other day) and CF Express Type B Cards as I have also purchased.
The Sony model No of my reader is MRW-G1
I do seem to recall that when the XQDs came out with the Zs there were some card readers that only read XQD.
Thanks for everyone’s responses!

Depending on your camera, if it has a cable port, you may like just using that route. No card reader needed! I do (Nikon 850).

That's what I figured I would do until I figured out what reader I wanted to order, Thanks for the suggestion.
It depends on the type of CF cards your camera requires and on the type of XQD or CF card reader you now have.
When I got my Nikon Z9 that takes CFexpress Type B cards and XQD cards, I had to get a new card reader that reads the XQD card and/or the CFexpress Type B card. I got the Sony CFexpress Type B / XQD Memory Card Reader model MRW-G1.
Check your camera manual for info on type of XQD cards too.
pro grade makes a cf express/xqd reader that has worked pretty well for me.
CF express reader reads both

The older readers will not, but there are some new ones that do both. I bought such a reader form B&H specifically so I didn't have to have two readers and because the reader was Thunderbolt 3. It's an Atech Blackjet TX-1CXQ CFexpress Type B / XQD Thunderbolt 3 Card Reader and it sells for $ 150. Great for TB3 or TB4 ports and backwards compatible (check Specs). I have had one for a couple of years and it works well. No issues at all. I am using mine now on a Mac Studio. Best of luck.
