Although it is a recent temple (there are elements still under construction), WAT PHRA THAT SUTHON MONGKON KHIRI is a temple that is worth visiting as it features beautiful architecture that is inspired by ancient, traditional structures. The element that has made it popular is its long Burma-style reclining Buddha statue located outside of the temple buildings: It is the first element that one sees when arriving. Next to the feet of this giant statue, a naga staircase (naga = divine race of half-human, half-serpent beings that reside in the netherworld) climbs to the Ubosot (ordination room). In the courtyard are Burmese-style chedi and some Lanna style statues with many details and refined lines. This temple mixes Burmese and Lanna styles and is particularly photogenic.
