I'm from a little town in Tennessee called White House. I'm just beginning to learn with my DSLR (a Nikon 3100 and a D40 -which I inherited). I've played with them and read some basics - but I guess they aren't basic enough for me! I've been shooting on the "Auto" setting and have been told that I have an artistic eye. I've joined this forum to learn about photography. I'm reading a great deal of your posts and I'm enjoying them... ;)
Looking forward to your pictures. I spent one yr in Murfreesboro, Tn and like the civil war era. The humidity move me back to Nv.

tray welcome. you will find the people real friendly and helpfull not to mention talented. post your photos as soon as you can listen to the critiques apply what you learned go out shoot some more post repeat. Also a great book for understanding about f stops shutterspeads iso etc is "understanding exposure" by Bryan peterson. In plain english annd with awesome photos he will show you how to not only get a technically correct exposure but to find the most creative one as well. Highly recomend this book.
Sinatraman & Clyde - thank you so much for the welcome! I just ordered "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. I've somewhat of an affection for black & white photos. Sometimes - to me - certain shots just look better in b&w and create somewhat of a "classic" feel. Can't really explain why (though I'm sure the longer I study photography someone will tell me). I don't have an upscale DSLR. I shoot with Nikon D40 and 3100. I'm just looking at obtaining a 50mm AF 1.4 G for a prime lens. I realize that compared with other people out there - my little set up looks - well... cheap. But I've seen a lot of photographers out there that have top of the line equipment and so on and the picture looks great - but there's no character, nothing that draws you into the subject. I don't know what I'm trying to say. But THAT is the type of photo I want to learn to consistently take. That little "slice of life" not just a "moment in time" - but an "interesting" moment. Am I making sense? I sound silly! Here are two shots that really got me interested in taking photos. They aren't great - but they're a start. Let me know if you would...thanks.
Peek-A-Boo! - I caught my niece playing with my mother at a water park,,,placed it in a vingette in post production.
Day-Dreaming -This was a shot of my son and his date for prom, I told them I'd be right back...then caught them day dreaming together...by far my favorite picture of the set.
