Fossil fuels will be around for a long time. Maybe will be granted the opportunity to purchase them from foreign countries if we are lucky

There is a discussion about electricity - saving money and rates. I just got a bill. Figuring my amount due vs kWh used, it works out to $0.41/kWh. Last month, it was $0.33. I see a trend here.

Yep, bend over

So far...nada. Although a lot of coin and power is being gathered.

N.C. niche energy...solar, wind... 8% total.

Expensive energy.

Rates vary of course...nuclear is holding yours down...same with my state.

Ultimately, consumers will have to benefit from rooftop solar. Right now, that's a shell game, with some folks figuring out how, while others get screwed. In my town, it's verboten, because the town is part owner of a generating station. They don't want competition that would reduce consumption and increase cost per kWh.

Yes, solar is all over the place depending on the parent energy company(s).

Our electric company has to buy it back...and they hate it...but no serious rebates from our state either.
I think solar definitely works for limited applications...

I would not go with an entire roof system simply because the tech is moving so fast.
They have made amazing strides in the portables...some very powerful portables.

I have been playing with a few of them....Togo and Bluetti ... have a few panels...they work.

Would I bet the economy on solar or wind...lawdy no.

I don't know what our advertised rate is here now,but you can't figure from it anyway. The advertised rate is a certain rate only at a rate that is for higher usage. If you use more than a certain minimum, the rates are graduated & the only one they advertise is the cheapest rate that almost no one uses, but it looks good for ad purposes.

Mine is 10.2 cents per kw and that includes taxes and carrying charges and it will be good till 2 /24 but my son who is with them will go up next month to about 12.5cents and now they are adding the carrying charges to the total which will be about 18.6.

Everything is only going one way these days...up...with no end in sight.

I have a simple rule...not a blanket rule...but simple.

Good ideas can be expanded infinitely.

Solar and wind fail this simple rule.

California has already rationed electric drivers...and that state has not even come close to saturation.

It's a niche energy source...with pros and cons...but still...niche.

But yours is generated by salt, and that makes all the difference.

I'm very intrested in rates other folk use. Jerry, it sounds like you've done some calculation to reach that figure, Is that the actual per unit charge, or the total charge divided by the number of units used? In NZ, we have a "line charge" a "unit charge, another small fee, and then the whole lot is charged what we call GST, (Goods & services Tax, )I think that is 15%. My rates are 30cents per day line charge, 25.4 cents per unit, the small charge is a levy for something 0.13 cent (about an eighth of a cent). This is called a low user rate, because I use few units, (250 units in May) I opt to pay more per unit and less for the line charge. A real incentive to use less. Others pay less per unit, say 20cents, but maybe $1 a day line charge. There is a breakeven point to work out, being a real frugal fellow I'm well under it. Back to my question are you really on 41cents a unit? that seems quite high, in comparison. An.drew.

THIS is inflation. Oil is @ $80 a barrel, so that isn't the cause.

90247 is in Gardena, CA.
In a cluster of apartments buildings, there are no gardens.
A friend lives in Lawndale- and homeowners are paving their lawns for parking.
Hardly any oranges in Orange, Ca.
Etc.
