Marjorie Taylor Greene is worried that few Republicans might make a deal with Democrats to get someone like Liz Cheney elected to be the next Speaker of the House.

Good, they need someone like Liz instead of someone like Marjorie.

There's nothing in the Constitution that states that the Speaker must be a sitting member of the House. Earlier this year, there was some internet chatter that posited what fun it would be to make Donald Trump the Speaker, if the Republicans got control of the House.

Article I, Section 1, Clause iv -
Quote:
The House of Representatives shall choose their speaker and other officers; and shall have the sole power of impeachment.

That is correct.
How often does this happen?
Fat chance.

Yet another "fat chance" is the results we've witnessed for a mid-term e******n.

I'm not saying whether or not they were good or bad and I dislike the same party controlling both houses.

The speaker is v**ed on by the entire house not just controlling party.
The republicans must nominate a candidate that will get nearly all of Republican v**es ( at least more that the democrats total)
Otherwise democrats could nominate. A candidate that get all of their v**es.

It will probably be McCarthy despite todays rhetoric.

And when has the minority party ever won?

Hmmm, that seems to be a contradictory interpretation from what we are actually seeing.

There had been speculation that a former president could be elected Speaker. I think it was Gaetz who started that thread.

So, are you advocating a violent revolution against our democracy?

One of the maxims in political science, is the absolute rule of "the party" when it comes to organizing in the House or Senate. A member may never v**e again with his/her party after organizing, but they must adhere to the party line when it comes to Speakers, Majority/Minority leaders, whips, and committee chairs. To do otherwise would be political hara kiri.

One of the great questions, though, is why someone like Bernie Sanders gets to v**e with the Dems for organizing the Senate? He's clearly a Socialist (I will not let him off the hook as an "Independent"). I quite understand the hospitality of the Dimms to get his v**e most of the time.
