This portion of Crooked River is part of the Oregon Scenic Byways system as well as designated as a wild and scenic river. The river is exceptionally low right now as the reservoir upstream is at just 6 percent of capacity.

The portion of river shown is called the Palisades.

Beautiful - it doesn't look exceptionally low - are these archival images or current? Hopefully you will get enough snow this season to make up for the past few years.

These are current. The river level is at 10 cubic feet per second. Normally this time of year it will be at about 200. Where these photos are shot isn't normally accessible in the fall without a very long hike as there isn't usually a place where you can cross the river near this location. Right now it is knee deep in the deep holes. Usually those holes are waist to chest deep.

Also, it isn't the past few years. It was just last year. Three years ago we had flooding in town because there was more water coming into the river system than the reservoir could catch. So, after that they waited later in the winter to fill the reservoir, then last winter we didn't get any snow, so since they had drawn it down in the fall it never filled.

Thanks. It's a beautiful river that is amazingly accessible, especially at low water levels. Because the reservoir above the river is at less than 15 percent of capacity currently they are keeping water flows in the river below normal. Right now it is at about 50 cfs. Normally at this time of year it would be at about 800cfs.
