I have several devices on remote control outlets, and they come in very handy. My AM/FM tuner no longer works with the remote, so I'm going to plug it into a remote outlet. I'll be able to turn on/off the FM transmitter and the tuner/receiver with a remote that can control up to five outlets. It's not that walking across the room is a hardship, but being able to turn the sound on and off with a remote is convenient.

The price certainly is right. I use the older X10 system in my house to control a plethora of things from a single timer/controller. Not only is it convenient, it can be useful for security as well by turning on/off indoor and outdoor lights even when you’re away.

We just remodeled our offices and put in led 2x4ft lights and automatic switches. When you walk in they turn on and turn off when they don't see motion for whatever you program then for. If you fall asleep working you can either wave you hand or shout. They work on voice also. We can change the color temperature and wattage also. Neet stuff.

We had a motion switch in the lunchroom for the lights.
If you ate with little motion, the lights would shut off.

Similar with the bathrooms.
If one took longer than the set delay, oh well....
Best have a flashlight.

I have one with 3 outlets and it works out to my garage and basement. They work great.

I have a couple remote control outlets. They are internet connected so we can turn the bedroom lights on and off from anywhere (as long as we have wifi). One nice feature is that you can set a schedule for them and they turn on and off without needing one of those old clock-based switches. The internet based schedule does DST automatically. We have one in the chicken coop and one outside the coop.

I bought a couple of them on sale one Christmas for $10 a pair.

Mine are made by KASA. They're cheaper than a clock-type timer and you can operate them from across town. We could even turn the lights on or off when we were in Paris last year. One goes on the Christmas lights outside. The two on the chicken coop and the one on the Christamas lights operate all winter (the chicken coop ones are under the eaves of the coop and the Christmas lights control is just in a plastic bag so they are out of the rain/snow but they work at outdoor temperatures in CT).

Amazon has a 4-pack for $40 but they go on sale sometimes around Christmas.

You can download an app for your smartphone to turn them on or off from your phone.

We use remote outlets a lot at Christmas time. Very handy for turning displays on-off, especially the ones outside.

Jerry, I may have to try that as a backup. All the lights in my home are smart lights controlled by a phone app. The problem is that I turn them off at night to go to bed using the app and if there is a 1 second power interruption they all come back on in the middle of the night. I never knew how often these small power interruptions happened here until I got this light setup but it happens enough to be annoying. Last night it happened twice and the house lit up like a Christmas tree in the middle of the night waking me up. Then I have to get up and walk around the house to turn them all off manually unless I want to wait between 5 and 10 minutes for the modem and lighting hub to go through their restart routine. By the time I get the lights off I'm wide awake so get a few hours sleep only. If I add these plugs and keep a remote by my bed I could turn them off without getting up and maybe go back to sleep. Of course the other problem is that I sleep on an adjustable bed with head and feet raised and these small power fluctuations also cause it to return to it's flat position! I guess I need to put it on a UPS of some sort to keep that from happening!

I have an outdoor timer for the outdoor lights and a remote for the lights on the tree.

The X-10 power line system doesn’t do that - non-relay modules are alway off when power returns and relay/appliance modules stay in the state they were previously in. The downside is they use a timer, remote button(s) or handheld/keychain remote and can’t be internet controlled with an ap.

I have this remote controlled outlet that not only can be turned on and off via WiFi, but you can also set a 7 day schedule of on/off times. You can even have them switch at local sunrise/sunset times.
