What is your opinion of the Canon T100 for a teenage beginner?

Thank you

I'm not familiar with that model name. It appears to be like a T2i which is available used. I had a T2i and it was a very good entry level camera.

Be careful. Teens want to learn smartphone photography. Don't screw up trying to make them believe DSLRs are the "holy grail". They aren't anymore.

Hmm . . . I gifted pretty nice Nikon DSLRs to my son and to my granddaughter. They were excited to get them, but they both use their phones. I wish you luck.

If it's not the latest gear...don't bother.

Almost any camera will do for the beginner. The study and application of effective image composition of a given photograph will produce the best results whatever the camera used.

A T100 would be Awesome as a gift! ...if it were a T100 Toyota pickup!!

As a teenager, my daughter would often be a second shooter at Weddings with me. Her images were well done and very artistic. She has a Very Nice Nikon kit that.... now sits in my camera safe - been there for years since she Exclusively uses her Samsung Phone for images.

Jus' sayin'....

I found a Nikon Coolpix camera at a second hand store it was priced at $10 and the color of the sticker was half price. So for 5 bucks , I picked up a nice camera for at that time my grandson was 4 years old. He loves that camera. He has dropped it from time to time but it still works. He is seven now and he still enjoys the camera. A few weeks ago I found the same camera in the same second hand store for the same price. So if he wants a replacement, I am ready.

Likewise. I've found that any modern camera with a decent lens - even the low-cost kit lenses - take decent photos.

He can't afford to use the K1000.

I looked at Keh Camera to see what was used. And why consider only full frame? At Keh, you could purchase an Olympus E-M10 mkIV (the latest model, not weatherproof) in EX+ condition for $527 or an Olympus E-M5 mkII (one model down from latest and weatherproof) in EX+ condition for $437. Keh showed they had an Olympus 14-150 f4/5.6 (28 to 300 in 35mm angle of view and weatherproof) in EX+ condition for $290. This would give a teenager a very modern camera for a very reasonable price. And the cheaper set-up (~$740) would give the teenager a camera that could accidentally be left out in the rain or splashed with water and still would be able to shoot with a 28 to 300 angle of view in 35mm terms. Just something to think about.

For the money you can't beat a Canon rebel T8i with a 18-135 kit lens. They can grow into it and last for years
