Affinity Photo 2

Good morning Hog's, just wondering if anyone has downloaded the latest version of Affinity Photo 2. I downloaded it yesterday afternoon and quickly sat back with a video by James on the new features.

Right away, I ran into problems while trying to follow along. One of the new features allows you to return to the RAW Develop Persona from the main editing program, something I have always wished for. All you have to do is click on the layer to highlight it, and double-click the image on the layer and you're returned to the Develop Persona.... well, mine don't work, at all.

A second method is to hit the "V" key and click on a label along the header, my page doesn't even show the label.... still couldn't get it to work.

I also saved my setup values but when I reload the program, the setup values are gone.

I'm running Windows 10 and have had Affinity Photo for about four years now.

Thanks for any help you may offer,
Jack Olson

Jack, I believe that your best bet is to contact the Affinity team. I am sure they have the best answer.

I bought the new version 2 yesterday and have spent some hours with it. Also using the Windows version.

The ability to save your work in the Develop Persona and return there to tweak it later works fine for me. I suspect you're missing the step up front before you make any adjustments at all in the Develop Persona where you have to select the Output type from a drop box: Pixel Layer, RAW Layer (embedded) and RAW Layer (linked). Once you begin making Develop adjustments that option disappears -- got to select it first. Select one of the RAW Layer options and then when you're in the Photo Persona you can just dbl click the RAW Layer to go back to the Develop adjustments.

Version 1 (at least version 1.10.5) already allows a return to the RAW Develop Persona, simply by clicking on the Develop Persona icon in the upper left portion of the horizontal toolbar. It is even possible to open a jpeg, which puts you in Photo Persona, and then switch to RAW Develop Persona by clicking the icon.

Does version 2 offer something different?

Absolutely yes. Version 2 lets you return to the Develop Persona with access to the raw data. Version 1 does not.

Thanks for the reply David, the old version didn't save the settings, so when you returned the settings were all at "0". The new version saves the settings so when you return, you can 'continue' from where you left off.

Thanks for the reply Ysarex, never had to select an output type in the previous version. I'll give it a try.

Sounds like a significant improvement.

Thanks for the tip, I re-ran the tutorial and saw the part where James mentioned the "Pixel Layer, RAW Layer (embedded)." I made the change and, sure enough, I can switch back to the Develop Persona.

There's still one problem remaining though. When I'm done in the Develop Persona and switch to the Edit Persona, the first adjustment that I select, defaults to the 'Daughter' position on the Image Layer. Subsequent adjustments create a new layer as they should.

Still working my way through this one.

I have Affinity but mostly use my old standby Paintshop Pro... why, Lazy to learn when i get by well with PSPro.

Interesting comparison Affinity with Photoshop... Winner-Tie. But for 5 years $50 until a base Affinity series change vs Photoshop at over $600 for that 5 years... Significant.

I've got it. Not big on layers ( I know what they should do - they just don't do it for me) so maybe this will provide me with an impetus to learn a little more.

Thanks for the reply John, there's a learning curve involved but well worth the time spent viewing the tutorials.

I am using the Mac version of Affinity Photo 2 without any problems. Great photo editing app! And it's less than $50; no subscription. A no-brainer.

I've been using Affinity since it came out but I never like the raw conversions. I always used Capture One.
Yesterday I tested Affinity Photo 2 on 10 very difficult raw files and at the moment I'm more than excited about the results.
