The Maasai in the Masai Mara have a nice little gift area set up for after you see the village. The ladies make most of the beaded items, the men carve many of the items. Nothing is mass produced and this is one way to help the village financially. At the end you will see we do get personal shoppers! As you walk to each of the little booths they will hold items you choose and if you decide on something different they know where to take it back. Money does go to the tribe, but the person who actually made the item gets a bit more, so it is important to keep who made what separate!
I will have Amboseli Maasai shopping too! Similar, but different.
I loved all the colors!

The guy on the left was my personal shopper! I did come home with the gourd. Another couple on the trip bought the shield.

These bring back memories. I think I photographed the same dudes, and I brought back one of the red plaid blankets.
