We've had help in the past, now hoping someone knows what this was used for. No markings on it. You can tell it's all hand painted.

My mother told us all about it decades before she passed, it was from her mother. We've had it for 10 years and can't remember what she said it was for. We think it might have been for putting over a candle, but not sure.

Tape up the hole and use it as a candy jar. LOL. Really, it is beautiful.

Beautiful whatever it is used for. But...if you can safely plug the hole at the bottom, you can use is for a "salt seller." To show off the beauty of it.

Hi, Rich, I always thought the term was "salt cellar". Whatever it is, it sure is a curiosity.

I’m pretty sure it is a pot that was used to hold a can of condensed milk served to accompany a tea service. The milk could be poured right from the porcelain pot. The hole in the bottom made it easy to push the empty can up for removal.

Well whatever it is, it sure is dainty and cute. I like the bottom "skirt" and the delicate loop handle at the top.

It might help to know the size. If you could place a coin or something of known size in a photo it could help people zero in on its use. The answer about the condensed milk seems plausible but if it is small, that might not be the answer.

I'm surprised there's no writing on the bottom. There is something called "Occupation..." (I think). That refers to pottery made in Japan after WW II.

Since there's a hole in the bottom, maybe it was just a decorative piece.
