Immature Bald in a dive

In going thru some older files from my 2019 trip to Homer Alaska I found this one and decided to see what I could do with it. Perhaps it's sometimes worth the storage space to keep questionable keepers, at least for me in this case. I like the position of the immature bird and the saturation of the talons on an otherwise colorless bird. Also, for some reason I like the immature bald eagles; they provide more variability compared to the adults that are very similar. Hope you enjoy and constructive comments are always appreciated.

Sony A9, 100-400 at 330 mm, 1/2500, f/5.6, ISO 6400.

Great shot! I love the obvious concentration of the eagle in his dive. On the other hand, I do think a little more color in the sky would enhance the photo a lot. It is a Keeper!

Thanks for looking. I did have more color in the sky, but with the download I didn’t like the blue on the bird so I reduced the blue saturation. Just providing some saturation in the sky, masking the bird, might help. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for the look Larry. Yes, 6400 (low light) and it was still under exposed on the bird. When I took this image I was not familiar with Sony’s Zebra technique for exposure which, if used, may have helped dial in the exposure a bit better. Although the noise still wasn’t bad, I love what Topaz DeNoise can do! Again, thanks for the look!

Frank, seriously, this is a prize winner ! The only thing I might try to do with it is lighten/brighten the eye - it will be tough tho I know...

Hey Larry, again thanks for the comment. I actually did that; guess it might need a bit more. Doing so is not that difficult at least with my technique. In Photoshop you can simple create a curves layer, increase the brightness, create a inverse mask layer, then taking a brush and paint away the mask around the eye. I’ll give it a try. Thanks again.
