You have got that right! The Lag! That would be the lag of the mirrorless camera to wake up and fire.

You may want to rerview the Pre-Capture function on a Z9 and Olympus OM-1. Took care of that problem for those not smart enough to anticipate the action.

Nonsense and more drivel. Nobody claims that a mirrorless will turn you into an Ansel Adams. Just makes shooting to a desired result easier. Interesting that you run off a roll call of people who never shot digital, only film. Don't you think any of them would have been delighted to jump at DSLR's? And subsequently mirrorless? Even Clyde Butcher, one of the last living iconic photographers now uses a Fuji GFX and a Sony A7RIV. By the way, I'm pretty sure some of your heroes did indeed shoot with mirrorless cameras. Just not as we know them in the digital age.

He also rattled of a list of names that never shot with native mirrorless lenses either, another point of evidence likely missing from that contributor's level of experience. And thus, a naïve assessment of the ceiling of DSLRasaur capability compared to the superior mirrorless technology.

Many people would say that the D850 and the 20 lenses the OP has (a prior post) would be overkill for the kinds of pictures they described. What the financial situation of someone is and what gives them pleasure is something only they can decide. I know many people who spend much more on other hobbies. Even if a Canon or Sony or OM-1 Systems cameras might track better, the Z9 would allow the OP to use their numerous Nikon lenses.

Lol you are correct. I am an amateur faceter or gem cutter. I cut at the Master cutter level. I spend more than a thousand dollars sometimes on a stone small enough to fit inside your baby fingernail. Then I cut it and get between 25-35 percent return out of what I started with as far as size of stone cut. So if I buy a piece of sapphire for 200.00 a carat and buy a piece of uncut sapphire that weighs 5 carats I end up with a little over a one carat cut stone. That's not set in a piece of jewelry. Yes I spend a lot of money on a hobby but at least with mine I don't have any trouble selling my stones. My issue is keeping some for my wife and I. Lol. I did spend 5000.00 on a lens for my D500 and I'll lose on that one for sure. Lol

Thank you for writing lose instead of loose to mean lose. I guess that's off topic, but I'm going to say something anyway. It's appears to be common for people to interchange those words with very different meanings, and it isn't a typo.

I've been shooting with a D850 for about four years and with a D810 for a year and a half longer than that. I also have had a couple of D500s for several years and still use them a lot...more than the full frame cameras, on fact.

I've looked seriously at the Z7 and checked out the Z6 in passing. Both are a step back from the D850 except for a couple of specific benefits that don't make any difference to me. A look at the Z9 shows it to be pretty much equal to the D850 except for a couple of specific features which again, don't matter to me. The Z9 does have practically an identical operating system and user interface to the D850, although at twice the price.

Last week, I bought a second D850 at my local camera store while they were on sale. It was their last one, and I'm now looking for a MB- D18 grip for it, which may be a challenge.

I won't try to influence your choice here. You will have to decide. I will share a little bit of a discussion I had with the owner.

It seems that buyer's remorse is quite common among D850 owners who have bought or traded for Z9s. Apparently they spend the $5500, then discover that the Z9 offers no real, tangible benefit for their photography. Quite a few "undo" the trade if their old camera is still available.

If you just want something new, your choice is really pretty simple. Shooting the Z9 will be just like shooting your D850. Menu differences are primarily just to accommodate the few new functions. Your flashes and intervalometers will just plug in and work. The A1 will be something new and completely different. All new accessories.

Not sure if I’m answering you correctly. But I have a brand new, as never been on my D850,
makes it just too heavy for me, MB-D18. Let me know if interested. Thanks

Sounds like a "facetating" hobby! I have never tried to sell my pics, but sure you can sell your stones much more readily than I can sell my pics. Luckily I am in a position where I don't have to. And I prefer just keeping things as a "back-up", so still have my D500 (although now pretty much only use the Z9) as well as my old lenses. Occasionally my wife uses them or a visiting photographer or give them away. I can think of many hobbies that are much less productive than yours (sailing, golf, mountain climbing, etc).

The Nikon Z9 is the best camera Nikon ever made. I traded my D850 , D6 and all my DSLR lenses in too and got all ZLenses and never looked back. The 5 stop stabilized in Camera is unbelievable. I took photos at the air show at Nellis Airforce Base in Nevada and I got tack sharp photos of the Thunderbirds .
Im really happy I changed over.

Yes I have had several hobbies that were useless. Except for personal satisfaction. R/C aircraft was an addiction for years. Not sure if I enjoyed building or flying them the most. A short stint at golf. Many many street rods built. Now in my old age starting about 7 years ago I started cutting gemstones. Apparently I have a good given talent for it. I became a Master cutter in 3 years and have yet to have a lot of the difficulty that most have. Next year I'm going for my Grandmaster rating. Just wish I knew about this when I was younger. Lol. I actually got into photography because I wanted better photos of my gems. Lol 157 facets on a 8 mm wide piece of material. Lol. A constant challenge for sure. Lol

From a person who does some wildlife and family pics and some random sports here and there is it worth an upgrade to the D9. This is mainly for someone who upgraded from the D850. Did you after the upgrade have any regrets and if so what were some. I'm contemplating but over the years some of my upgrades I thought this wasn't worth the money to upgrade for what I do. Thoughts

Simple…if you already have the D850 then only upgrade if the Z9 does something you need to do… ut it doesn’t sound like you need one to me. If a choice between buying one of the two…depends on whether you’re interested in a model that will not get updated but is still excellent as is and is cheaper or want to get out of dead end tech.

Your D6 isn't that old so when you traded it in did they pay you enough to get the Z9? Currently the D6 is selling for more than the Z9.

If spending the money will not hurt anyone else in your life, go ahead and do it! Learning a new camera will keep your mind sharp, better than any pills and make you happy. It may bring you into different types of photography you didn't get into in the past. I love my Z9 and haven't touched by 850 in 2 months.

I could be wrong, but from the posts of the OP (as well as the wording of the original post), they were more looking to hear from people who regretted the switch from D850 to Z9 since they weren't really planning on upgrading (this is the original post: "I thought this wasn't worth the money to upgrade for what I do."). It always amazes me how invested people get in trying to convince others of something. Enjoy your Z9! I know I have and have fun trying out all its new features.

No usually only get around half the cost but I tried the D850,D6,4 lens DSLR tamron 150-600mm which gave me store credit plus 10% and enough to get Z9 adapter for my Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 , then I got Z100-400mm , Z24-120mm and had to add $250.00 . Then later I bought the ZMC105 f2.8 macro lens and the Z20mm f1.8, and the Z85mm 1.8 lens and that’s all I need
