Time for a Break

Folks, I think I have been a decent contributing member of the UHH forum. I run two of the smaller groups / forums...photo critique and Travel. Well, neither of those smaller forums get much traffic. The Main Photo Discussion, of course, does get the traffic...and people post travel related issues there rather than rather than the travel section. The gallery gets most of the traffic on photo posts. Simply put, not a lot of people are interested in photo critique or I may be doing something wrong with the section...

While it does not take a lot of time to moderate these two smaller forums, it does take attention. I kept up with the Critique forum / group while traveling internationally and during a serious illness.

As Admin tersely pointed out to me, it is the responsibility of the forum admin (me) to drive traffic to the site, take care of it etc. But, my time and patience is limited when it comes to volunteer activities.

I need to take a break from UHH for a while. If any of you are interested in taking over these smaller groups let Admin know.

In the mean time, be well.

I have been a UHH member since before Critique Forum was launched. It had problems from the beginning, including folks not following the strict guidelines and managers being absent for long stretches.

Having managed or co-managed a couple of sections myself, I appreciate what you're feeling, Hip C. I've taken breaks from UHH a few times also.

One comment you made I'd like to address. Admin may have "tersely" told you something in a pm about traffic; however, public information for creating new specialty forums clearly addresses the quite-large problem of people not knowing about, or knowing but then forgetting, the smaller forums:

Best wishes to you!

I see the same thing is happening with the new Black and White section, it's not being used sometimes not even by the manager.

Relatively speaking, Black and White still enjoys a lot of posted topics.

Now, let's look at Landscape Forum, which was created in 2018 to great fanfare, interest and advertising (we had two long topics of discussion in main forum about the possibilities and who would manage ).

The entire month of October 2022 saw only 7 topics posted there.

Thank you for your service. Even though you’re no longer administering those sections, I hope you’ll drop by periodically to add comments, post images and let us know how you are.

Be well,
Chris (TriX)

I was thinking about Black and White Photography. Basically the same thing is happening.

The first sentence of my earlier reply to you said that B&W Forum still sees a lot of topics. I count more than eighty posted in that section for October. That's way beyond the average for the specialty sections.

That popularity will no doubt change over time.

The suggestion / complain box is open via PM. Specific ideas are welcome. 5259 posts in just over 3 months would be a raging success vs most UHH specialty sections.

That's totally understandable.
