I am still trying to learn about Layers in Photo Elements 9. My question: Most videos, lessons and info I read or look at in books and online assume I know more than I do. With that said; How do I "stack" or put all the layers into one picture, such as titles, other pictures, etc???

One way is to Click on 'Layer' along the top of the screen and click on 'Flatten image' at the bottom of the sub menu.

Just keep in mind that flattening is a permanent change. Flattening creates one layer (background layer) out of the existing layers in your image. Once you do that and save your image, that's it. You cannot go back and retrieve the individual layers. Therefore, make sure you save your flattened image as a copy.

Here are some resources on layers. Hope you find them helpful.

Joe, a site I've learned a lot from, especially about layers is:
http://www.essential-photoshop-elements.com/
The video tutorials are especially great, as they begin from the beginning and work up. Give it a try.

A fairly easy non-permanent way to combine layers is to copy each layer you want into the new image. Then only make those layers visible. Then under Layers, pick Merge Visible. You will have a new layer that combined those visible copies. Everything else is still there.

papa Joe,

I checked out the site you suggested. I learned a lot from it. I'm looking to buy Photoshop but have heard horror stories about how that it is not user friendly. Well, that site explained so much. Thanks for sharing & I'm buying ps now.

I too had a very hard time learning layers - I was learning with on line tutorials like you and I was living - out in the stix in Mexico - so I had no English speaking friends to help me except om dial up internet.
When I finely got it figured out I was the most happiest of my time with PS.
Good luck and when it finely "clicks" practice with it a lot as layers is a fantastic tool for many projects.
IMHO

I have been trying to teach myself Photoshop for over 10 years and wouldn't say it is hard to learn but that it is a lot to learn. If you do not use it on a continual basis it is easy to forget what you have previously learned. The photo editing is pretty straight forward but it gets very complicated when you are trying to be creative. I am always consulting library books regarding techniques rather than just learning the tool operations and basic commands.
You might try to get ahold of a book by Matt Kloskowski called "Layers". Very easy to understand and the exerecises help you to remember the various techniques you learned.

Come on. With the disc I sent you, you still haven't figured it out? Just joking. I haven't either but I'm getting better. Just can't seem to find the time to really play long enough.

I'm looking at the book on Amazon. Does the info on layers transfer across the platform? In other words if it works on the full blown Photoshop does it basically work the same with Elements 10?

I downloaded the Layers book from Amazon onto my iPad. I have not had a good chance to go through every thing, but tha part I have read is well written and the images show exactly what to do. I like the fact that I can follow the book as I work on the computer,
