Sounds good but insisting on leaving the word socialism out of the equation when it is a central point of contention seems a little naive to me. No thanks.
Because Obama is no more a "Socialist" than George Washington and all Presidents sense.
The Continental Congress of 1776 encouraged enlistments during the Revolutionary War by providing pensions for soldiers who were disabled.
In 1789, with the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, the first Congress assumed the burden of paying veterans benefits. The first federal pension legislation was passed in
1789. It continued the pension law passed by the Continental Congress.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_socialist_movement_in_the_United_StatesThe use of the label "Socialist" for Obama was a red herring. It was used to mislead and misinform the general public by those who could not use other terms to show their hatred of Obama.
If Romney had won one could just as cleverly label him a Fascists or a Cult Leader in order to discredit him.
Specifically how do you see Socialism as a point of contention?
One example might be OSHA. My sister in Illinois runs the family farm and tells me OSHA is no going after family farmers for the use of child labor. Is this too much Government?
The Tea Party Movement claims we need less government. Yet wants the government governing abortion and gay rights.
Would Socialism include Social Security, Medicare, Fire Protection, Police, Military, Roads, Bridges, and infrastructure? Are familiar with the Rural Electrical Act of 1936? Was that not Socialism?
thegrover. My new best friend.
President Obama promised to work together to fix things. We shall see. That policy would be different than the first term. See if he tries harder to work with congress and not around them. Meet with Romney? Again we shall see. Then there is the do nothing congress. They used to fight hard for or against things, voted for or against things with determination to get something done. Seems like overall they are too passive. Where are the Daniel Websters and Daniel Boones of legislatures long past? Let's see if they can get it together and get things done. The financial, econimic clock is ticking. The words were spoken. Day three and what has happened? tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.

Working together is not somethng that Obama can do alone, it's going to take a 100% participation, both sides.
Working together is something Obama has been striving for for a long time, lets see how both sides react to it.
As far as Mitch McConnell is concerned, it appears he might be on his way out.
