I had my camera bag on the seat beside me in my truck. I was using some Windex to clean my windshield. I laid the bottle down on the top of my camera bag. I did not see that the bottle was leaking. When I looked at the bottle, it was empty. I took out the Nikon p1000 from the camera bag to inspect it. I turned it on. It did turn on but the screen did not light up. I took it to the local camera repair shop. Forsters in Salt Lake. They are very good. They called me and said it would need a new screen and that one was only available to the Nikon official shop. So they gave me an estimate of $300. I told them to do it. So they sent it to Nikon. In just a few days, they called me back to say that Nikon had not repaired it, but had replaced it. They sent it to me. When I got it, there was a brand new camera in the box with manuals, battery, charger, etc.
Very happy.
Good customer service is hard to beat

Also very lucky and very fortunate.
Excellent! Generally, warranties don't cover water damage - but I guess they cover Windex damage. : )

More cost effective for Nikon to replace the camera than replace the screen? That might indicate that Nikon’s cost basis on those cameras is very low. Or maybe they didn't want to risk a later repair return under warranty due to undiscovered or latent Windex damage?

It's cheaper to replace the camera. That's why I really can't see how camera repairman can make a living.

Was this very recent?
I got the camera back yesterday. I should also point out that in addition to the $300 to Nikon, there was $50 in shipping charges, to and from, and then to me.
