Grandpaw...I like that first one, especially. In this day and age of "everybody's gotta play" baseball, I seem to remember that Michael Jordan didn't walk on his high school court an instant success. That didn't stop him, though, and look what he became.
If you're not a starter, work harder. If you lose, keep trying. As a kid, in competitive baseball, I was on two teams that went undefeated, only to lose in the championship game of the playoffs. The next year we went 10-2, but won the championship. Losing those first two years made that champion all the more sweet. It still ranks as my best baseball memory, even though my 18 and under team also won the City championship in great fashion and played for the state championship. That was quite a season as well.
