I don't know about futuristic. Art Deco maybe. Personally, I think it is so ugly that it is actually cute!

LOL...pretty nice but I was expecting a gorgeous Steam Locomotive of some sort! My dad was a Conductor & we got to ride in lots of steam engines when we took him to work or picked him up. Back in the forties.

I think these are all electric, from overhead lines, so the actual engine is probably a gas fire power plant somewhere else in the country. But the elevated engineer's cabin at each end makes it possible to have a passenger seating area at each end of the train with windows looking right down the track. I've taken a few trips on trains that had an observation car at the rear, but it would have been a lot more fun if it had been up front looking forward
