"sensationalist press"??? Please get your terms correct...this wasn't the "press" (newspapers, newsmagazines, etc.) or even the generally accepted definition of "media." Remember, chat boards and things like Twitter and Truth Social are "social media" and have no controls over them, hence the explanatory word "social" preceding "media". In this particular case, look at where the story originated: a "preprint" newsletter which reports on scientific papers prior to them being peer-reviewed and printed in accepted journals, usually publications aimed at specific fields of study, such as viral research.
Why not wait for the professional verdict to come in before deciding societal guilt, innocence; need to research to begin with; conclusions of that research by the researchers; conclusions by people in the field of the published study; etc.
It is a wise man who does not open his mouth until after he determines what is before him is steak or foot. (yes, you can quote me on that)

Believe: to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so.
Maybe it was developed in a lab in Wuhan, and maybe it wasn't. Either way, it has devastated humanity for over two years.
