After a lot of fence sitting...took the plunge and ordered the Nikon D850. At 72 this will probably be my last camera purchase. My D810 is very loved so hoping the D850 will be also. If anyone has tips to share, that would be appreciated. Thanks!

I too was excited when I got my D850, after a year has gone by I found that I am using my trusted D810 more and more. There is something about the D850 that I don't like. ????????? REJ.

You will love the 850. More than a simple upgrade to the 810, it will advance your photography if you use all of what it offers. I am negligent in not doing so myself, but it is there if you want it. Things like focus stacking and in-camera HDR. The 45 mpx. sensor will allow you to crop tighter and compose shots you couldn't before. Congrats on the new camera but don't discount buying in the future. I too am 72 and just in the last six months have transitioned to mirrorless. Due to weight, you may head there someday yourself.

I still love mine. I've had it now for about four years and I don't have any desire to switch to mirrorless or any other DSLR. It's great in low light and the dynamic range is excellent.

Even though I have a Z9, I will never give up my D850. I use it for everything except birding and sports where the Z9 has some significant advantages. I have posted before that when my time comes, I have asked my wife to bury me with my D850 and 85mm f/1.8, and favorite Kiesel Aires guitar.

Tips: learn about focus peaking and focus stacking. Steve Perry (backcountrygallery.com) has a couple of E books you might be interested in. One is secrets to the Nikon auto focus system for dslrs and the other is secrets to Exposure and Metering for Nikon. They will help you get the most out of both your D810 and D850.

Thank you for your response. The ebooks you mentioned are in my e-library. So much has been learned from Steve Perry's lessons. He has made a significant contribution to my Nikon camera and photography knowledge.

Thank you for your response. My D810 is very loved and the D850 will probably be as loved. At 72, going g mirrorless does not make sense to me as my brain is wired for the 3 Nikon cameras currently owned.

So what is it that you don't like. The D850 has HDR which is great for the 'ice art' I shoot and other qualities lacking in the D750 and D810.
I hope you give it a learning curve and then decide. It's a hefty price tag to not like it.

Thank you for your response Bridges. The in camera HDR will be great for the 'ice art' I shoot.

Thank you to EVERYONE for your encouraging comments. Not having a camera store nearby, I was not able to actually 'try it out' first. In retrospect, it's a hefty price tag to not like it
