Calling on help from someone who knows a lot about autos

I want to put a good shine on my 5-year-old Mazda CX5. My question is if I use a ceramic formula, do I perform a regular wax job on the car first, or simply use the ceramic coat as my wax?

Thank you to those who answer.

From what I know, the first thing that “professional” waxers do is to wash the car with Dawn or something like that to remove all of the old wax. Then they “usually” apply 2-3 coats of the ceramic wax immediately afterwards. For an even more “shiny” and smooth surface, clay bar the paint after washing the car with Dawn. My friend had his Lexus GS350 done with 3 coats of ceramic wax, and it looks awesome! Good luck!

Checkout "Meguiarsonline.com"...lots of great info on taking care of car finishes.

I use ceramic coating on my cars. Paint prep/correction is really important if car has been waxed in some time. Make sure to check compatibility of products before you start layering product on top of product. Refer to Meguiars site for guidance.

Wax on Wax Off !!

Project Farm on YouTube. He did an exhaustive test of car polishes/waxes a while back.

You have to remove all the contaminates first. Clay bar the entire car, then wash with a professional wax remover, then a iron remover. Wipe the car with alcohol. I used Turtle wax Graphene coating. I got a real great shine on my BMW, Z4. See on UTube "Pan the Organizer, for the proper way to apply the product.

Do this.
THEN put on a pair of wax coats. NOT polish-wax coats.
Layers- each protects the one below it.
I used 2x ceramics. then 2x Nu-finish, then 2x warm yellow carnauba.
2+ decades Honda looks like last years.

On my 2 classic cars I used a wax called Treatment. It contained a pre-treatment which removed all the old wax and then I would put the treatment wax on the vehicle. This vehicle really shines in the light. Do not know if this wax is still available but this is what I have used on my 68' Pontiac GTO and on my father's 68' Shelby GT Mustang signed by Carl Shelby on the Glove Box door.

Wow ... ! Right up there with "what camera is best" ... !

I have to cast my vote for 'Meguiar's products. Four or five years ago I tossed all the car care products that I had on hand and changed to the Meguiar's line (I swear I had a Blue Coral Treatment from the 60s) ... I currently use the 'Ultimate' line which includes a compound, a polish, and a wax ... I use a DA buffer (tip: go with a five inch not six inch) with these and have had good results following Meguiar's online guides ... 'Meguiar's UK' also has good information ...

I use Meguiar's for everything - tires, black trim, etc., etc., ... but, I'm still hang on to 'Mother's VLR' ...

Anyroad - good luck ...
