Problem With Lightroom and Photoshop

I have been using Lightroom Classic and Photoshop for years and never had a problem with them - until now. When I open Lightroom on my Windows laptop, I get the intro screen with the picture of a figure apparently doing a flip. Then the program opens up to the work area, but the hourglass stays on and everything freezes. I can move the hourglass around, but it doesn't highlight anything and if I click on something, everything greys out and freezes and there is a message in the upper left corner that says, "Library Not Responding". Photoshop responds similarly. I have switched the libraries and created new ones. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programs several times. I have checked my graphics drivers. I have gone through diagnostics on the computer. Everything checks out fine, but nothing solves the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem, and does anyone have the solution to it?

In all this installing and uninstalling have you cleaned the temp files, cleaned the cache and run a registry cleaner? Also, when you reinstall, is it your original version? They could be running a pile of updates while you are trying to get them to open and do work.

As a subscriber, your most effective technical support option is the help chat directly with Adobe. If you can't get there from the Adobe launch screen given your current problems, work from Adobe.com and the support / contact us options.

The solution is Adobe technical chat.

Time to change to modern "buy for life" edit programs. There are many.

I agree with contacting Adobe, they can take over your computer and straighten everything out for you at no charge. I assume you are using the current subscription LR Classic. You can watch what they are doing on your computer while they straighten it out, you may also have to enter your password several times as they work.

"Buy for life" programs are equally likely to have problems and are not the answer to this problem.

And they never have problems? All computers and software have problems sooner or later. And this does not answer the op's problem.

Have you restored a backup of the catalog?

Best to contact above support. At this point.

I have now spent 1.75 hours in the telephone with Adobe and they have yet to figure out what's going on. The tech is bringing the problem up to the next level and will get back to me (hopefully sooner rather than later). I'm very disappointed in the lack of a resolution, but will let you all know what they come up with when I hear back from them.

Best advice I've seen for this question.
