INFLATION?
What’s to panic?

Are oil companies losing money?

Pharma companies?

Big Agriculture?

Banks?

Any BIG industries at all?

Especially patriotic multinational corporations?

.

ANY of them?

Any CEOs losing ANY of their wealth?

.

THAT’s what’s important, right?

Yup. It pays the bills and allows for expansion to create more jobs.

I wonder if weights will rise and prices will drop if and when this 'Shrinkflation' tapers off.

That's a pipe dream.
Been that way for years now.

In previous posts there seems to be a common thread by some that a company making money is somehow illegal, wrong, unethical or evil. Obviously, some business activities do fall into these categories, but what human activity doesn't have these negatives. Years ago there was a question asked of Econ 101 students, "What is the purpose of General Motors?" Many students answered, "Making cars". The correct answer is, "making money".

Some simply don't get it.

Both sides of the aisle aren't there to soak the rich...the 'producers'.

They are there to 'appear' to be doing that...

One party plays at attacking...one party plays at defending.

Bottom line....reality line... you cannot soak the rich without soaking the middle class and poor at the same time.

Pssst....it's set up that way...it always has been. It has to be that way.

Push too far...and it all starts to fall apart...with nothing to replace it.

I remember when I was a young man of 19 I could buy a gallon of gas for 29 cents and a loaf of bread for less than 20 cents. I also remember that I made only around 35 cents an hour working for a local farmer. I seem to remember that even at 29 cents a gallon, I was not able to do much driving around for around $15 a week.

But even then, I remember the old retired guys h*****g around the local hardware store, complaining about the high price of gas and bread!!!

Nothing new under the sun.

When GM and Ford source something for one of their vehicles... say a radio. They put limits on the profit the sourced company can make on that commodity. They TELL THEM how much THEY can make in profits and they monitor this closely.

Seems as though if things keep shrinking in size there will be many conflicts with the sizes of product required in recipes & this will be as big a problem as price. Now you need two where one should do.

There was a discussion about this last week. Today, it's the "Word of the Day."

PRONUNCIATION:
(shringk-FLAY-shuhn)

In the early 1980s, my wife worked for a company named Jeri Jacobus Cosmetics (now defunct). One of their products was a lady's face cream sold in a plastic jar. A few years after its launch, the product label went from 12 oz to 8.5 oz. The jar had the same external form and size. To all appearances, it looked to be the same size product, unless one looked at the label. It turns out that they made the jar to have a false internal wall and bottom, filled with air, to decrease the volume of the product. Same price of course.

So, Shrinkflation is not new to the 2020s...goes back many decades.

It probably won't happen unless specifically banned(which it won't be). It's just a situation of "I offer X of product at Y price and it's written on the packaging".
