In September each year, Alice Springs (in Central Australia), hosts the Red Centre Nationals in which locals and interstate visitors participate in a weekend of drag racing, burnouts, motorkana and show-and-shine competitions. One of the highlights of the weekend is a street parade of competitors in which many vehicles not usually seen on public roads can obtain a permit to take part. After two years of interstate travel restrictions due to Covid, the turn out for the 2022 event drew a larger than expected number of competitors.

Your photo memories are historic in deed... I recall my 66 Ford Fairlane Convertible with a 4 barrel in the 1980s peddle to the metal... deep throat growl sucking air and fuel. And the unique sound of a split manifold set of pipes on a Chev straight six ... as the song says... "Gone Are Those Days, Thought They Would Never End."

Thanks for your comments dp. The sound of those high performance V8 engines and the smell of nitrous fuel fumes in the above photos all added to the excitement of the event.
