These photos capture egrets in their natural environment. The first two, taken at San Joaquin Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, CA, were snapped just seconds apart. The first one has nice poses of the two egrets, but the Great Egret (orange bill) has moved much closer to the Snowy Egret, which I don't think makes for a good shot. In the second (actually the earlier shot), the birds are spaced nicely but the Great Egret faces the camera and I just don't find the pose as nice. I shot the Snowy Egret with a dragonfly in its beak at the same preserve, but in a different pond. I had never seen an Egret catch a large insect like this dragonfly, and this is a large dragonfly. I think it's an interesting shot. All three of these shots were taken with my Nikon D500 camera and Nikkor 200-500mm Nikkor superzoom lens using Auto-ISO and Manual using f/1600 to f/2000 at 1/1600 to 1/2000 sec. shutter speed.

Mike, so nice to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed them. Sitting in my car, waiting for the rain to stop so I can go out and look for more pictures. I could complain but we so need the rain. Supposed to be a double La Niña winter so we’re expecting more rain…hopefully today is just a start. Stay well and keep shooting
