A large mantis on about a 4"+ sunflower. From across the yard, I thought it was a dried leaf of the potted bush next to the flower. Then I saw my image when I imported it.

R7, 100-400L mk2 + 1.4x III w/adapter @ 560, 1/1600 @ f/8, ISO-800

They grow them big where you are. The mantis, that is. Good shot.

Thanks very much. Comes from eating all those midges and other bugs feeding on the vitamin & mineral enriched bird seed.

Great shot!!! The Mantis looks like a space alien and I have only seen in green. Do they all change color? Nicely done!

Thanks very much, most I have seen are shades of green, but they can change to match their habitat - it is a slow change through molting, not like the chameleon. I have never seen one, but some also can come out spotted in either the green or brown/tan color ranges.

You are welcome, and I just did a "redo" post of a different crop with both versions for comparison.

Here is the new crop done for the image as opposed to for a 11x14 print, which I had not planned on anyway.
