Don't waste your money. Even for 40 bucks, Windows 8 is a huge disappointment for desktop users.

why do you say that?
Microsoft tried to make ONE OS appeal to the tablet market and the desktop market---not an easy thing to do. The result? An OS that will leave you frustrated and confused. When I have more time, I can outline some of the more frustrating aspects... If you try it, let us know how you like it.
best buy has it set up on demo machines... I'll go there to check it out
I can't see that a touch screen would be easier than using a mouse. For one thing they use body heat to detect what you're touching, a right pain if you have cold hands.
Upgrade ? For some. For others it will have to be a complete erase of your current system and start from scratch and reload your programs and transfer what you have saved.
Upgrades are cheap if it will work with you. Go to microsoft and get the upgrade advisor to run on your system.
Get the PRO version if you are going to do anything.

What was wrong with Xp for us simpletons?
I'm stuck on Windows 7 Ultimate for the internet improvements and using Microsoft Office 10 and Adobe Acrobat Pro X10.
I have no intention of upgrading (?) to Windows 8 when I would have to buy a new monitor that is touch sensitive.
I can get Windows 8 for $12 for Pro or Ultimate through my non-profit TechSoup account.

I tried using it at Staples ,got rather confused cause I wanted to find out what programs were on it and could never find them . All I can say is what in heck did they do , this is a mess !!!!!! The sales person asked if he could help as I started walking away , I stopped , looked at him and said " nope ,going home to my iMac" " , turned and walked away .
Microsoft probably had some new folks come in that used Ipads - convinced MS to go to touch screens.
I personelly think it sucks. Although you can control it with a mouse it's like buying a Cadillac and putting a Nissan engine in it.

I loved XP in classic mode, so I put Win 7 in classic mode and love it even more.
Agree no interest in Win 8. Hope they continue support for Win7 for those of us that use our computers to do work and run programs.
