This male house finch was perched on the top of a potted dwarf tree in warm late afternoon sunlight, mid-Jan 2022. The use of a fill flash using High Speed Sync and a high shutter speed isolated him, with the surroundings and background greatly under exposed. Then a bit of tweaking of the tones, contrast etc. turned everything but the bird and his perch into a textured black where you keep feeling you are almost seeing something. But what?
Canon 90D, 100-400L mk2+1.4x III @ 490, 1/2000 @ f/8.0, ISO-1600

That's an interesting shot. I like the isolation effect. It looks like the bird is suffering from Finch Eye Disease. We're seeing a lot of it near the New England coast.

Luv the dark background-adds drama and the colors pop! Thanx for sharing.
Fantastic image Robert.
