How to find interesting locations or tours

I wrote this in response to a prior question about finding intersting places to take photographs when traveling:

We use Viator. It is owned by Trip Advisor. It has guided tour offerings for nearly every city in the world. It has ways to set up transportation or transfers as well. We have done food tours in Poland, Venice and Peru. We’ve done WW2 tours in Germany.

Most recent we set up an airport transfer from Casablanca to Rabat in Morocco using Viator.

I just looked and there are photo tour offerings as well in many places.

In cities we often look in visitor centers but they are quite limited in info on tours. Viator is our first place to look.

There is an app called GPS My City. It has points of interest for major cities with GPS coordinates. I used it in Buffalo to set up a walking tour. It provides photos of the venues and found what I thought were the best architectural buildings in that city. I just set up the walking itinerary the nite before. Easy.

There is a site that is dedicated to photo locations but is a membership deal. I’ve not used it.

The Photographic Society of America has a travel advisory component as well. I tried using it once and then info was rather thin. But you might try it if you are a member.

A quick look on Apple App Store reveals quite a few apps for photo locations.

Finally, in major cities consider using the hop on- hop off bus pass for the first day. It gives one a good orientation of the major parts of the city.

Also, look at the lists of sites that Hop-on Hop-off buses go to. This is often a good way to get an overall perspective on a city.
