MacBookPro M1 Problem With Apps Install

Before I spend hours waiting on the phone to Apple and Adobe, I will throw this out on UHH to see if any others have had similar problems. Now, I do love the MPB M1, because it is much faster than the Intel MPBs I used earlier. But when it comes to downloading programs that I may have purchased from the developers, it gets a little spotty.

Supposedly, when my Intel versions of programs were to be installed on the M1, according to Apple, the computer was supposed to ask if I wanted to install them using Rosetta 2. That never happened. Rosetta 2 is the M1's method to install Intel programs. To be candid, a select few Intels did load without any outside intervention, but others just wouldn't load. I googled to death all the Mac user groups and online Apple support itself to no avail. Suggestions to use Terminal to install Rosetta, even when I copied and pasted suggested install language in Terminal always resulted in the message that Rosetta could not be installed. Many other non-Terminal suggestions online did not work either, even at Apple. The same with suggestions to use Terminal to itself to load the programs. No luck.

My most recent disappointment occurred when I purchased Elements 2023 and Premiere Elements 2023 from Adobe. The DNG files downloaded, to my Downloads Folder, but when I double click on the icons (or use Open) and the PSE icon to install appears, if I double click on the install icon I get the message "The program is not responding". Terminal suggestions failed here too.

Just asking if any Hogger using an M1 Mac has had similar problems and perhaps a solution. Thanks for reading.

If you're anywhere close to an Apple Store, I'd suggest making an appointment at the Genius Bar and let them help with the issue. The other avenue is to go to Apple.com, click support, MBP, and follow the process to talk to an Apple rep. I usually can get connected via phone in under a minute.

Before I spend hours waiting on the phone to Apple... (show quote)

I have never had to wait hours for Apple Support to answer. You can also leave a call back number and they will call you.

When I migrated to the M1 Mac Mini I was also having some problems with installing/updating Adobe products. A call to Adobe got me (quickly) a tech rep, and his response was "Hmm... Some issues with the M1 installations. Try this instead ... I don't remember exactly, but it was not the install program on the disc and he had me download a different install program - after which everything worked fine.
Call Adobe.

At least with the Mac Studio having the M1 Ultra chip there might be a problem with the Screen Saver not starting. For me, after an upper level Apple contact and transfer of log files, it was determined that the Adobe Creative Cloud app was placing an "op lock". A fruitless call to Adobe ensued where I could not understand the accent on the "English speaker" on the other end. Eventually, I hung up; uninstalled all adobe apps including creative cloud and reinstalled. Problem solved.

I presume that Adobe interrogates the computer to find out which chip you are running and downloads code compiled for the M1 architecture. I had originally copied the code over from an aging Mac Pro 2013 so it was built for Intel.
