I think I like it better than the Sombrero. Very nice.

Hi alberio
Thanks for checking out the image of the Little Sombrero Galaxy and for the comment. It is a pretty little galaxy, this image is definitely better than the one I took of the Sombrero Galaxy, I'll probably try M104 in spring with the new camera to get a better shot of it which would be more of an apples to apples comparison of the two.

It definitely looks like its big brother! Nice capture.

Hi bwa
Thanks for checking out the image of NGC 7814 and for the comment. It is physically about the same size and M104, but ~ 10 million Light years farther away making it smaller and dimmer from our point of view.

Wow! I just had a closer look and noticed several other galaxies in your image.

Hi alberio
Yep I counter over 50 other definite more distance galaxies and another 50 that are probably galaxies. The biggest and brightest of the other galaxies is IC 5381 at a Magnitude of 14.1 and a distance just of 550 million light years. Some of the dim ones are probably a couple of billion light years away.

I appreciate the amount of time you have spent capturing the Little Sombrero Galaxy. I am not into astrometry and was not familiar with your equipment, so I had to check it out on the internet. Wow!

Wow! Another home run. I don't think my 8 inch RC can resolve this galaxy. It is absolutely a great image. something that I can try to achieve with my 8 inch, or at least, try to get it. I'm going to try getting Y CAS nebula next to the star Navi. If it comes out, I will post it, if not, well..... RFB

Hi Railfan_Bill
Thanks for checking out the image of NGC 7814 and for the comment. At magnitude 10.8 this galaxy should be visible in an 8 inch scope as a faint smug of light with reasonably dark skys (bortle 5 or less). The other galaxies in the image would be too faint to see though an 8 inch scope. However long camera exposures would be able capture these with an 8 inch without issue, they would just be somewhat smaller. I look forward to seeing your images of Y Cas nebula.

I just finished stacking the images I took of the Little Sombrero Galaxy (NGC 7814). It gets its name since it resembles M104 the Sombrero Galaxy but is farther away and although physically about the same size it appears smaller and dimmer (Magnitude 10.8). It sets around 40 million light years away and can be found in the constellation of Pegasus. This image catches a plethora of more distance galaxies. The two brightest are IC 5381 (Magnitude 14.1)to the right of the little Sombrero and PGC 259 (Magnitude 15.7) below it. Note: IC 5381 is ~550 Million Light years away (I don't have a distance on PGC 259). None of the other more distance galaxies are in the charts I have.

All questions comments and suggestions are welcome.

For this interested.
I posted an image of the Sombrero Galaxy taken with a DSLR last year at
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-702169-1.html

This images was taken with a Meade LX200 16 inch telescope at a focal length of 4096mm. The camera used was an ASI 6200mm pro monochrome cooled camera. The images were taken with the gain set to 100, and one night it was cooler so some of the images were taken at -20C, the other two nights were in the low 70's so the images were taken at -12C.

The follow exposures and filters were used. (The odd number of exposures is due to some being tossed due to atmospheric turbulence.)
Luminance - 153 exposures at 3 minutes each
Red - 27 exposures at 5 minutes each
Green - 23 exposures at 5 minutes each
Blue - 27 exposures at 5 minutes each

The images were calibrated (using Bias, Dark and Flat frames), aligned (registered) and stacked using Pixinsight.
I just finished stacking the images I took of the ... (show quote)

Excellent image, and tremendous effort.
