Just how young are you? I once had a loan that was floating and it went to 21%. Every month I owed more than I had the month before. The dollar amounts were much less because of when it was, but still.
I once bought a house and was able to assume a cal vet loan at %4.75, and that rate was considered extremely good. Things change. I wouldn't want to go back to making $395.00 a month. I make more than that in a day now.

Yeah, I remember Jimmy Carter too and Biden sure is giving him a run for his money.

Not even close, but %4.75 interest being an extremely good rate didn't have anything to do with Carter. The %21 was Carter.

Exactly right Thom, 21% was Carter and fortunately for you you were able to assume a vet loan, unfortunately you can no longer assume a mortgage. I remember those days, I think that I had a primary mortgage at somewhere around 19% on my first home with a second that I had to pressure the owner to take at 13%.

It was Carter who gave us stagflation and it was Reagan who inherited Carter's mess and worked through it.

I'm not tap dancing, you are just not facing reality....

The inflation rate in 1979 was 11.35%. The inflation rate in 1980 was 13.50%. . https://www.in2013dollars.com/inflation-rate-in-1980

25% inflation across two years, that is not a train that you turn around on a dime Denny, why do you always defend liberal screwups?

Denny has proven by his posts on here that he’s as conservative as is Biden. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen him criticize Biden for anything.

So Denny, you are talking about Mortgage rates which are dependent on the Fed's monetary policy employed to lower inflation which is at the core of the problem... Here are the inflation rates during those same years, it would seem that the Reagan Administration did what it needed to do to bring the country back into line. Maybe that is why he won 49 states in his ree******n only losing the state his opponent hailed from by some 5000 v**es.

Oh! Look! Biden looks a lot like Carter!

Do. You really want me to inflate the 1981981 thru 1986 rates to current year. They will make the carter year pale in comparison.

All I do is correct your nonesense.
