Sony lens shade.

I have a Sony E30 F3.5 macro lens. My question is on the lens shade itself. The shade covers the whole lens. In the middle is a vertical rectangle covering about half of the lens. When how and why do I use it? Thanks in advance.

For all, a picture of the hood appears in this Rockwell review, just text search for 'hood' or scroll down about half way.

The hood allows for an optional filter to be attached.

The full-frame Sony/Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 lens has the same kind of hood. If attached properly, the hood does not interfere with the functioning of the lens. The hood only covers the part of the lens the sensor does not use anyway. Because the hood is so small, it is on my lens all the time. I have never had any problems with it. If you are not sure, just do some test shots.
