Really? Wikipedia says, "The American bison (Bison bison) is a species of bison native to North America. Sometimes colloquially referred to as buffalo (a distinct clade of bovine), it is one of two extant species of bison, alongside the European bison." That would make the phrase, "American buffalo" appear to be a colloquialism, not something one would use if trying to be precise.
It's Bisalo!! I doubt that the average person would be able to tell the difference with two photos side by side. We saw "European" "Bison" in Denmark. I call both of them Buffalo...Precise or not!
