Just took these images a few minutes ago, out on my porch. Found this wasp (normally seldom sit still) on the cage of a cherry tomato plant. It's been a bit cool here so it wasn't moving as fast as they normally do. The face shot was life size with about a 50% crop...Used my Lester Dine 105 MF macro along with a Lester Dine ring/point light. It had been upside down on the wire but I righted it in a few frames...
first one is a dandy, like them all
Just got a correction in the species...It is actually a European hornet (Vespa crabro).

Isn't the Vespa a scooter as opposed to a motorcycle?...irregardless, the size of this hornet makes me cringe....Thankfully I took it during cooler weather when it wasn't as active... :D

Yes, Vespa is a scooter-- I was going with the whole Hornet thing....
Wow! This one has a face that looks like an orange! Great macro shots.
