Those of you that have been following in my last post I said that I would be lowering my SS to keep ISO down a bit. All were shot with a D850, 70-200mm, F2.8 auto WB & ISO. Shutter speeds are posted with the photo.
Thanks for looking all comments are welcome.

…I like the story of the first two…#14 is open to the right and the second shot shows him with the catch and run…!

Richard,

Did you use Topaz in your post processing? Your 1/1000 look good. I sometimes will shoot at 1/1250 but to keep the noise down on my 20MP sensor I have to shoot very tight with very little cropping. Thanks for sharing, I like the action.

Yes I did and in fact just before I started I got the newest Topaz AI. The 1st two shots came late in the 1st half which I was always on the far side of almost every play. The football gods sometimes seem to put me in that spot always to far away with a 70-200 lens. Second half was a little kinder. I am pleased with the action still being captured at 1/1000 I'm going to try dropping further and see how it goes. Thank you for your interest.

Will be waiting to see how it goes if you do go slower than 1/1000. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I also bought the complete series of Topaz AI products back a few weeks ago (Jules highly recommended that I try it) and was tinkering with the photo AI which uses a combination of denoise/sharpen/giga together. Jury is out on whether executing the modules separately or allow photo AI to work its magic. I may use Topaz products for 5% of my galleries that I post on maxpreps.

I use Photoshop-Topaz Sharpening-Topaz Denoise. Wonderful products in my opinion. Makes the difference in a saved photo or just delete it.

I think if you dropped the shutter speed on night football you are going to see a noticeable difference in the image quality. It will be even softer than what this post shows. You must wait for the action comes to you and fill the frame on the back of your camera. Hardly any cropping will help a lot. The 70-200 on a full frame camera is just to short of lens. If you shoot in manual 1/1000 (minimum) at 2.8 and shoot tight you will be fine. The iso will be fine only if you shoot tight. I can't recommend this enough.
All this is just my opinion, with many years of shooting experience. Try it you'll like it..

Richard - Great shots under the circumstances. Take Jules’ advice ( as we all should). Let us know how you like the Topaz Photo AI package. I’d be interested in how it compares to using Denoise and Sharpen separately. Not sure what Gigapixel adds. Thanks for sharing. Paul

I am curious like Paul about the Photo AI. Anybody using this program I would like their comments and opinions about this product. The sharpening and Denoise are great.
