Just returned last night from England's Lake District. We stayed in Keswick (Pronounced Kessick), more or less the best hiking area of the 4 differently named Lake Districts for 14 days. Very beautiful hikes, steep, but beautiful. We rented a car for around 1,000 pounds and drove from Manchester airport and back and only one day of driving. The roads were VERY NARROW and VERY CURVY. When 2 cars in opposite directions met one had to stop and pull over as far as possible so the other could pass. Stone walls on both sides of the roads. When one met a bus or large truck coming the other way it was, "Hold your breath and grab your ass". The busses and launch on the Lake were cheap and took us to each of the hiking trails. Wasted the thousand for the car. Could have taken the train from Manchester to Kessick and put a down payment on the Z6II that I rented with the 24-70 VRs. Traffic in the town and surrounding areas was very heavy and pedestrians in town were wall to wall. We stayed in Kessick because I didn't want to drive on the wrong side of the road with a stick shift in the right driver's seat.

R hip went south 2d day we were hiking. Before we left, I had scheduled a total R hip replacement in Nov. Was able to suck it up for the hikes thanks to 400 mg of Celebrex. Didn't take any tele because at 75, my ability to carry a heavy pack is limited. The hikes were not terribly long: 4 to 8 miles. But quite steep. Sherry carried our water to help keep my pack light. Whatta Gal!

Weather was remarkably nice, only one rainy day, though it rained nearly every night. Highs around 60 most days. Cloudy in the AM, sunny afternoons.

Very nice picture! Takes me back to when we visited there. Wish we were there. By the way, you can rent a car with an automatic transmission in the UK, and sometimes this worked to our advantage in an unexpected way. They would never have a small one on the lot, so they gave us what they had for the same price. We got a Mercedes twice. I drove a stick with the left hand twice, and I'll never do that again.

More, please. That green is so striking. Is it real? Good luck with the hip. Do your PT work and you'll be fine.

I've been to the Lake District on 9 vacations to England. It's real and it's that green.

I thought so. You usually don't over-exaggerate colours. I'm always surprised by how green England is.
