was wondering if anyone still uses a film camera, as I am plannig a trip to isreal, and wondering if it still worth bringing a film camera. I currently have a sony a850 (25mp) and I will potentially will blow up pictures in the future. my film camera is also a pro (minolta 9xi). I dont want to bring extra camera stuff, and very undecided what to do?

I've always wanted to go to Israel ...... are you taking a package tour or on your own by yourself ..... on taking the film camera, you will probable get more pics with a digital camera. Just get extra storage cards in place of the film you would buy and extra batteries .......

I love using my film cameras (Minolta SRT 202, 201). But, bring plenty of film as it is becoming hard to find (at least where I live). However, I also use a Digital Canon T3i. I am not proficient on using DSLR cameras, so if you are then don't bring the film camera. But, if you are just learning the digital camera; then defintely bring the film camera if you are more comfortable using that. This is my personal opinion. Have a great trip.

bring the film camera as a back up body in case anything happens to your dslr. I think you can safely find kodak and fuji film in a modern western country like Israel. Have a safe trip, post lots of photos especially of the holy sites. bon voyage!!!

Just remember, in Israel the film will wind from right to left...

I'd love to go to Israel.

On the question of whether or not to take your film camera along in addition to the digital camera; to me, this depends upon what lenses you have available to fit both cameras, and what lens will likely be on the digital most of the time.
I'm thinking that whatever you have that can give you a noticeable different focal length on the film camera, would be the deciding factor.
For instance, my decision on whether to take 2 camera would be, that on one camera, I have a 70-200mm that I would leave on and probably use most of the time; and on my second camera, I would have a wide-angle lens that I would have available so that I wouldn't have to keep changing lenses to get the shots I want.
On the other hand, depending upon your lodging plans, you might not feel safe leaving one camera in the room at certain times, and so this might be where you'd decide to only take along one camera.

I also rely on film cameras. My wife and I like to travel in the Carribien on cruises. The first time we went, when we got to the airport, I was afraid that the X-ray scanners would fog the film. However, neither the unexposed nor the film already in the camera was damaged. Have fun on your trip.

I still LOVE film and look for it to last even if only in the hands of a few die-hard purists. Love the digital too because of the darkroom time advantages. What I wouldn't give to go to Israel! I would take both, if possible. You could very well end up taking many more photos than you might expect! Have a great time...I too would love to see whatever you can post when you get back!

memory cards are cheap especialy 2gb. take plenty of them. you will fill up those cards alot quicker than you think. being in a foreighn country there will be oprtunities on every street corner, from art and murals to a mcdonalds sign in hebrew. better to havr too much memory than not enough.

hell yes,i'm a slide man myself.nothing more satisfying than looking at my slides on a big screen.you can make prints off of slides too. check ahead to see if film is availiable in isreal. they also have film bags to get past the x-ray macyhines.

I would leave the film camera at home.
Instead I would pack a flash unit, a heavier tripod, some filters, another lens, and above all a laptop or tablet.
The immediate feedback you get from examining your shots nightly will impact what and how you want to shoot the following day.
