We averted a railroad strike, but conditions are still not good. BNSF has a tough attendance policy. An engineer called in sick to go his doctor because he didn't feel right. They insisted he come to work. He did, and he died of a heart attack in the locomotive. Although some changes in the rules averted a strike, conditions are still not acceptable. The "Points System" is tough on the workers.
It is amazing to me what workers have put up with in a nation with this kind of wealth, all so a few can have more money than the know what to do with besides make more.

Yes, lots of wealth, but who has it?
All of the unions should be shut down; they are dinosaurs.

AND rely on the "generosity and empathy" of management? OH SURE.
Unions; underworked, overpriced and way too much power!

Genius!
Non hours-of-service employees, 12- hour days,
seven days a week, no extra board. No sick days.
But the overtime is great.

I agree. As workers threaten to strike so they can have paid sick leave, the railroads are posting record profits. Your average worker can't afford a lawyer to advocate for them, the one-percenters who run the government won't do a thing to help them, regulatory agencies like OSHA aren't given the resources to protect them and the last thing business owners want, is to lose precious profits on worker health and safety. Who's left to look out for them? Their only leverage, is by uniting under the framework of a union.

We should give everything to bosses??? Unions uplifted workers.
The intent of unions was always meant to stay in the private sector...not the public.
FDR did it reluctantly and intended it to be temporary as social security was supposed to be.
But weaning from that was a political impossibility...and it's been downhill ever since.
Worked a union job, 25 yrs. Got a yearly raise, cheaper better insurance, if you messed up there were disciplinary steps in writing to be followed. Worked our behinds off. Got (after 20 years) a fifth week of vacation. Nonunion, paid triple what we paid for lesser insurance, raises were rare. Messed up? Subject to the mercy of some tyrant boss who wasn’t even there, 20 yr employees maxxed out at 3 weeks vacation. Should mention this company expanded during my 25 yrs 100 fold. It pays to have someone in your corner fighting for you. Corporate greed is real.

Definitely! Most people work only a third of the day. Let's bring back the good old days. Men, women, and children worked for twelve hours a day, seven days a week, and they were glad to get that dollar a week. A minimum wage of $15/hour?! My grandfather said he was paid $10 a week on his first job, and he got by just fine. I don't know how American businesses can survive paying these outlandish wages. Let's give the CEOs a break for a change.
CEO vs worker pay -
A study of 300 top US companies released by the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) on Tuesday found the average gap between CEO and median worker pay jumped to 670-to-1 (meaning the average CEO received $670 in compensation for every $1 the worker received). The ratio was up from 604-to-1 in 2020. Forty-nine firms had ratios above 1,000-to-1.
So, $15/hr for the worker becomes $10,050/hr for the CEO. For that other forty-nine firms, CEOs would be getting (not earning) $15,000/hr.
Most unions are mafia and crime family run. Why pay dues to crooks?
