Learning to See byDavid Molnar is one great read. It tells of his beginning and where he is today. You can pre-order from his website or on Amazon. The book will be available on Sept. 27th. I believe if you pre-order it there are some freebies that come with it. IMHO its well worth the money and well worth the read. There are reviews of the book on the Barnes and Noble website. Check them out then decide.

Ok, so this is an advertisement and nothing else.

You had access to the book in advance and now advertise it here.

Sorry if I offended you or anyone else. This was not intended to be an ad. It was just something I thought would be of interest to the UHH community. If the admins wish to remove it, so be it.

Joe W.

Thanks. I like freebies.

Hmmmm.
How does one tell others about something without it being an "advertisement"?
Would book reviews be advertisements???

Thanks for posting, and don't pay any heed to the trolls.

But since David Molnar is a celebrity and advertising photographer, isn't the book skewed toward those genres of photography?

MDI, thanks for the advise. I guess if a person wants to follow along those lines the book would help. I am a hobbyist and just thought someone such as myself might get some insight on seeing things they might not have seen or actually look for when taking a photo. As for it being an ad, I never intended it to be taken as an ad, however it does appear to be taken as such. Again my apologies to all UHH members.

Regards,
Joe W.

I assume you are not affiliated with the author, or profiting from sales. Correct?

In that case, posting your opinion of a source you found useful, in the hope perhaps others will gain from it is an unselfish act. Thank you for posting that.

This kind of recommendation often appears in the Links section, and there is certainly no harm in posting it here.

Can you describe more specifically, what was was it you liked, what you got frm the book? Did you like the photographers style, his style resonated with you, he had a good teaching style, beautiful photographs?

JD750, Thanks for posting a response to my post.
No sir, no affiliation with the author, and no money was made for posting. I have a couple of his courses and like the way he teaches. Like many other teaching photographers out there he has his own way of teaching and I have found is easy to follow. The folks here on UHH are good teachers as well and have their own way of teaching or giving advise to those that ask. I felt that the author really wants to help aspiring photographer's to succeed. I hope that answered your questions.

Regards,
Joe W.

Thank you Joe. Seeing for me is one of the harder things. Saying that is a bit ambiguous as seeing can mean different things. For example “seeing what the camera sees” vs seeing the photo, the composition, the opportunity to create something, tell a story or create art. For me it’s the latter definition is more difficult.

I searched for the book and found it, I like this part:
“This book teaches readers to learn to see, because in the end, that’s what a photographer does: notice what other people often miss and understand how to capture those things in a masterful way.”

That’s the hard part, the ever learning part. Thank you for the tip.

Well not really an advertisement. To me it sounds more like a book review from a member who had access to the book and liked it. Now he is telling other members he liked the book and we may like it as well. Nothing more than that my friend. How you see it as an advertisement is beyond me.

You did not offend me in the least. Most likely I won't be buying the book but I do like hearing good things about products other members have tried and liked. Isn't that what friends do, tell each other good and bad things about products. Then we can either try the product or not. Thank you for your post.

Well, nothing is free. You have to buy the book to get the "Free stuff" and I'm sure you are already paying for those Free things because they have been costed into the overall books selling price.

An advertisement presents something to another with the aim of selling it.

A review of something informs another of its usefulness for a purpose.
