Good HOT afternoon here in southern Kansas!!!
Low 90's for the past 6-8 weeks!!!
As my (God Bless Her Heart) Mother would say, "hotter than the hubs of Haydee's" - that would be "Hell"

My Issue with using the Clone tool with the photo attached.
You notice the large "Brown" spot at the far right in the photo?
I was using my phone to send a text.

I did not want my "mug" in the Great Granddaughter Karsyn's first year party, thus the clone.

However, I was able to clone out "me" using the brown leather color of the couch.
I then tried to clone out my head using the color of the wall.
COULD NOT CLONE!!
I tried using several spots and still the same, could not clone.

What have I done wrong??
Why will it not clone my head off as the color of the wall??

I'm using PS CS6, extended, Student and Teacher edition.
I've re-set the software several times, still no cloning.

Thanks for your help to tell me what I am doing wrong!!
I'm not asking for you to clone me outta da photo!

Could be corrupted files in your app. CS6 is medieval in the Adobe world. Years of use build up little faults and those then become big corrupted files. I don't know if Adobe allows it, but a reinstallation might do the job. But ask Adobe first if you can do a reinstallation and then all upgrades of CS6.
It might be time to join the new world of photo apps. I have LR and PS for $9.99 a month, but that is because I have kept up my subscription for years. Both are currently $19.99 a month and just Lightroom is $9.99.

As to removing your head. Try using erase on the brown blob of your head, then fill the void with the wall color or even clone in the couch color, so it looks like the back of the couch is the height of your head.

I was able to do so with this image. Regrettably, I have no idea what could be preventing you from doing so. If there is a help button on whatever software you are using, I'd try reviewing the process.

Are there layers in your image? If so, you need to be on the background layer to use the clone tool. Also, the clone tool should be in Normal mode. If it were in Lighten, or some other modes, it wouldn't work in this case.

JohnSwanda, no there was only the single photo with the layer being the background.
I did check the clone tool and it was set at a reasonable size/softness too.
I do believe it was in the Normal Mode as well.
However, I'll double check these tips you sent.

And really do appreciate what you have done with cloning me out !!

Thanks

A couple of other things to check. Make sure there is no selection ie Marching ants active. Even if you can't see them hit the Deselect feature under "Select" . Next, make sure your Caps lock key is not on.

Hi Robert,

LR and PS are still $9.99 per month for the 20 GB plan, they just hide this option from the first page. When at Adobe, click on Photo plans, not all plans. It is in the second row. You can also subscribe thru Amazon at the $9.99 per month price.

Check the stuff Fstop has suggested, they are the most likely causes - and you are trying to clone using a blank layer above the background layer with ‘current and below’ selected aren’t you? If not you should be!

No, I was not doing as you suggest
I opened the photo in CS6, tried to clone, nothing.
There was only one layer and was ladled as "background".
As an amature, i do not know about how to setup/use a blank layer.

Thanks for your response, I will study this suggestion more...still in the amature mode presently.

The background layer may be locked - does it show a padlock at the right hand end? If so you can click on it to unlock. That may let you clone the layer directly but I wouldn’t do that in case you mess up. Instead, hold control and choose the J key. That will make a copy of the layer (and it won’t be locked). Now click on the ‘new layer’ icon just in from the right hand end of the bar at the bottom of the layers stack. From memory it’s a rectangle but dither over it and it will probably tell you. That gives you a new blank layer above the copied layer. Now, with the clone tool chosen, check along the the top bar to ensure you are on ‘current and below’ - if it says ‘all layers’ change it to ‘current and below’. Now try cloning on the blank layer. Hope this helps - but don’t forget to check out the bits Fstop suggested, they are easy to miss!
EDIT: Just checked, the new blank layer icon is square with a plus sign in the centre!

Are you trying to clone a layer mask? You can't do that. You can only clone on a pixel layer.

2nd question, do you have the layer you are cloning selected?

Good to know, now I can still recommend it to people. I just got tired of wading my way through their menus when I looked.
