I have been using ON1 for some years now and happy with it. ON1 has "New" plugins that look pretty cool but they are pushing subscriptions now. Looks like if you want to "Own It" standalone version everything is Al La Carte. I have sent several inquiries to ON1 without a response though.

What do you hogs think about ON1? Are you happy and ready to jump in and order the ON1 2023 Raw? The demo videos sure look good, if they really perform that way.

Each software has its weaknesses and its strengths, for me on1 strengths is its masking. I too pre-ordered 2023. I stayed away from the subscription option.

I have used ON1 for some time; it now is the best, without question! I have pre-ordered 2023, which will be released in October. It includes all the capabilities available, though if you wish to have them as plug-ins, that is an additional cost, not necessary for me. I now basically use only ON1, as there is no need to use any additional software (which is inferior). Plus, no need to go back and forth between programs. I can't wait to get the new upgrade!

Ditto for me. My only criticism is they are unresponsive to questions that I can’t resolve on my own.

I was disappointed to see the Subscription option because only a few years ago, On1's marketing pitch was don't get locked into subscription mode. In any case, the individual plug-ins are mainly for people who use LR or PS (or someone else) -- all the software is included if you purchase the new version. Not sure why someone would want both the complete software PLUS the plug-ins. Maybe someone will explain that to me.

Meanwhile, I'm very happy with On1's Photo RAW processing -- basic tone & color, special effects, masking, layers, portrait mode -- it does it all.

I was disappointed to see the Subscription option ... (show quote)

My supposition is that the subscription model was offered in addition to the one-time purchase because for some reason there seem to be many who prefer that way of handling it; I do not. And even though ON1 is better, there still are many who insist on the practice of using ON1 as plug-ins to some other software! I’m quite happy that this no longer is necessary – or even feasible when everything can be done better without having to jump back and forth, all directly in ON1! So 2023 will be released in October; it’s hard to wait for what is the most significant upgrade so far – by far!

On1 gives you the choice to own perpetual or SaaS licenses. If you have an existing license even if it isnt current you should be able to see an upgrade price by going to the On1 site.

If you are looking at plugins that is not On1 Raw 2023 but rather some of the effects they market separately from the all in one On1 Raw 2023. In 2022 they separated the two. But again you can buy them as perpetual or SaaS licenses.

2023 has some great new features which really bridge the gap between the adobe suite and On1 Raw 2022. The new super select allows you to select different parts of the image, apply effects against them, then select a different part and do other effects. The demos are showing the beta product and every time they show a new video it is better. This is a more powerful masking than what you get from adobe and way better even as a beta than Neo. I own both and teach adobe classes.

There is also a new feature which does auto keywording. I am an Excire user but from what I have seen On1 has a more accurate product plus it allows you to pick which keywords you want easily.

On1 has shown over the last couple of years that when they deliver a product is not a BETA but rather a solid product right out of the bat. That doesn’t say there won’t be issues they didn’t catch in QA but they are pretty fast at fixing them.

You can’t lose by pre-purchasing now because if you don’t like it when it is released you can ask for a refund with a period of time. And if you have purchased previous perpetual licenses of On1 you just keep using them unlike how SaaS pricing works. Any of the On1 affiliates offer additional discounts so look at Davenport, Henry, etc.. by the way Scott Davenport has a very up to date look at the super select in beta.

I've used ON1 for a few years and have been able to resist their constant upgrades. I will do an upgrade every couple of years but I don't miss what I don't have.

which is what you can do when you buy perpetual licenses. Not sure what year you are on but 2023 is something you should take a look at especially if you missed 2022.5 that added NoNoise and Resize AI.
