When asked about books in schools and which books shouldn't be there, her response (from my bad memory), "All books should be in the library, this is America, we don't ban books."
I like her answer.

When asked about 2024, she lead me to believe Joe will be running for the Presidency again.
I am even more optimistic about the future now.

Books & Re-e******n? Yay!

Two things I fear, Biden running again and Trump running again.

I agree wholeheartedly. Still, minus C***d, every policy decision in which the current administration differs from the previous, I support the previous. Excluding C***d, inflation was lower, there was less of a crisis at the border, a higher labor force participation, greater GDP growth, cheaper everything, no new foreign wars, American energy independence, no Russian war in Ukraine, and the Taliban and Isis far more in check. It’s a long list.

So Jill the Ed.D. says (assuming your memory is correct) that all books should all be in all school libraries?
Meaning that all books are appropriate for all age groups, regardless of content?

Yeah, that sure is a reason to feel optimistic about the future, all right.
It does speak volumes about a certain political party and its agenda.

She did not specify age groups/appropriateness.

One would think that appropriateness would be thought of by an Ed.D.

Yeah, middle schoolers need enfettered access to books with graphic pornographic passages!

That is the kind of books being banned from school libraries.

What's the meaning of "enfettered"? You might want to spend some time in a library, and look through a dictionary.

I bet he did, LOL. This fellow King Crimson fan has made many a typo. If that caused some tented trousers, 'twas not my fault or intent, but if it keeps the pervs out of the schoolyard...

You guys have completely taken Jill’s comments out of context because it makes you happy to disparage. She is not advocating for inappropriate pornography is schools. She reacted to the right wing extremists intent to ban books that have been in libraries for years—books dealing with anything counter to a right wing religious belief. She is right—we don’t ban books in America, but we don’t place pornography in school libraries either.

I would have guessed moist panties in his case instead of tented trousers!

I am also a big ELP fan...which shared Greg Lake w/ King Crimsom for a while. Carl Palmer is the only surviving member of that trio. I don't know all of Crimson's work...but 21st Century Schizoid Man is a classic!

Ah but there is graphic porn type literature in school libraries. A few posts back I spoke of a school board ejecting a mother from their meeting for using offensive language. She was reading graphic sexual descriptions (porn nature) from a school library book.

It was a while back...I don't have the link...but there are innapropriate books in kid's libraries.

Question is...who judges? When it comes to kids books, some level of discernment in needed.

We don’t ban books in America.
What is appropriate in a school library should be a matter of discussion, but not based on distasteful, unflattering history, or tied to religious fanatics of any faith when we still live in a free country.

I am a con who supports books on varied religions, philosophies, honest historical perspectives. No problem for exposing kids to a varied educational experience.

I have only been talking about books that graphically describe sex acts, straight and gay. Books with graphical passages likely should not be in school libraries. You may or may not agree.
