The queen apparently liked to take photos.

"Queen Elizabeth II passed away today at the age of 96. One of the most photographed humans of the 20th century, her own passion for photography was no secret. The late British monarch was often documented with a camera in hand. In fact, images of her chatting up photographers and inspecting camera gear are plentiful."

Actually, at the time she learnt she had become Queen, she was photographing Elephants. From the Treetop Hotel. And apparently the elephants heard the news before she did, there was an exceptionally high number of them turned out at the waterhole that night, (although maybe that's the legend that has grown) and she also used a movie camera. Years later her children had the movie put on a CD Rom for her, It's probably on Youtube now I haven't looked.

Until recently, Queen Elizabeth II was the Patron of The Royal Photographic Society. That transferred to The Duchess of Cambridge, who also like photography.

It is absolutely true. And I suspect her interest was from before she was queen. The earliest photo that I saw was one of her as the queen taking a photograph of the photographer taking her picture from across a short area or distance. She was there for something else. But she obviously could not resist taking a photograph of the photographer taking her photograph when she was a new queen.

They had a lady photographer that had been the queen's photographer for more than 30 years on CNN. It was a very good special. It may be viewable with a search of CNN's coverage of the queen's history / funeral.
