If ease of returning it is your concern, you can't do better than Amazon. They'll either email a label to you, or tell you to bring it to UPS, and UPS will box it and send it. Either way, refurbished is a good way to go.

Correct Jerry, Amazon's return policy is excellent however as other posters have mentioned, their expertise and that of the Amazon sellers and that's what I would be researching.

I thought you wanted to know about how to safely get the most bang for your buck. Sounds like you want to buy expertise. In that case only buy in person from a 30 year veteran salesman at a big name camera store. I gather expertise on line for free before I decide what I want/need to purchase. Then I shop for where I can get it for the best price balanced against minimum risk. That's just me!

Well because of their lack of expertise the return policy is excellent as they take your words for it.

I'll second the issue of returns with Amazon...it really couldn't be easier. I love just handing the item to UPS and letting them send it. Don't forget your receipt!

That's true... when you buy from Amazon Direct or "Sold by ______, Fulfilled by Amazon".

But is it the case here, where OP is considering purchase from? "SSE Photo & Video" in New Jersey.

Their listings on Amazon say: "Sold by SSE" and "Shipped by SSE".

If you go to the SSE Photo info page on Amazon, it shows their address... and a different business name: Big Easy Camera.

If you research Big Easy Camera they appear to be out of business... Well, at least the domain name BigEasyCamera.com is available for sale.

Looking up by address on Google maps shows yet another business: Power Photo.

Reading some of the reviews of Power Photo... one purchaser ordered from 4K4less.com, yet another business name, but rec'd gray market items from Power Photo!

There are also several disgruntled ex-employees who don't think too highly of Power Photo and posted unflattering feedback.

None of these businesses.... SSE, Big Easy, Power Photo or 4K4less... are authorized Canon or Nikon dealers (I don't know what brand of lens the OP was looking at, but would bet they also aren't authorized by any other manufacturer).

Based on everything I've seen so far...

If it were me, I would hide my credit card and run away as fast as I can from SSE Photo on Amazon (or Walmart, where they also are listed)!

P.S. For some reason, fly-by-night camera businesses are often located in New Jersey. I've always wondered why.

A month ago I bought a solar lighted patio umbrella from amazon. When it arrived 3 days later I put it up and the led lights didn't work. I sent a return request to Amazon. 15 minutes later I had a full credit posted to my credit card and they said I didn't need to return it, but I could keep it or dispose of it.
