I am thinking of getting this lens primarily for indoor shots without a flash. Any feedback and posted example pics would be appreciated.

I'm a Nikon user and have Nikon's 17-55 2.8 on my crop sensor cameras most of the time. It's a great range for a constant aperture lens. The Canon lens even has IS, something that the Nikon lens does not.
I have read reviews on the Canon lens (out of jealousy) that said it could have been designated an "L" lens. That's a very good thing! IF I switched to Canon and wasn't shooting with a full frame-sensor, that would be the first lens I would buy.

I do use flash a lot with it though. Just because you can shoot available light doesn't mean you should. The fast aperture gives faster & more accurate focusing- that helps with all cameras.

I have this lens and love it. I have used it without flash indoors at my daughters basketball games, shooting in the house any at parties at my office without flash. A little pricy but I think we'll worth it. Also use it for landscapes with excellent results. Have used it for wedding also, great piece of glass.

Interesting... I am considering the same lens (I think). Realize that it is an EF-S 17-55MM f/2.8 IS USM though. You don't indicate what camera you plan on attaching it to, but it is designed for Canon crop sensor cameras. I'll be watching this thread along with you to see other UHH user comments. Thanks for posting the question.

Indoors no flash. f2.8 is not fast enough. I would suggest either the canon 50mm f1.8, f1.4 or f1.2. I like the f1.8 because you still have some dof at f1.8. Lastly, the 50mm f1.8 only cost about $100. The canon 35mm comes in f1.8 and f1.4 and will give more dof at wide open. they too are good choices but cost more than the 50mm 1.8.

It is one of the sharpest lens in the Canon line. There are times I wish it was a big longer but with so many lenses in my bag I find I use it for most indoor low light shots. Highly recommend it.

I have had this lens a couple of years and love it. It is my go-to lens that is used 95+% of the time. Good build quality and very sharp. I also have a 70-200 L lens, the 10-22mm, the 60mm macro, and others but for me, the 17-55 is the perfect walk around lens.
