What a neat set of photos. I'm not a good critic, but everything seems right to me and then there is a nice, pleasant smile and the dog. I say perfect.
Hi Horseart! That means a lot coming from you! I always enjoy seeing your images!

Hi, Erv - thank you! I know you're a dog lover too. Dogs have a way of
Keeping things light, don't they?!

I find these very, pleasing to look at!!!!!!
I think there is room for tweaking.
I'm not experienced to tell you how.
As I look again, You are on the right path!
When you can, please tell us about your set up. Images?

Thank you Pat! And I agree that is plenty of room for tweaking!
My studio set up is very limited - two continuous lights in shoot through umbrellas and one speed light tethered to my camera and set on an old tripod. Continuous lighting seemed like a good and fairly inexpensive way to learn lighting, but I'm finding, while you can get a nice soft light, you can't play around with it as much as I'd hoped. My backdrop is wrinkled muslin on a frame. The muslin has got to go - what do you use?
Terrific photo's! I really enjoyed looking at them. The first thing that struck me about them was the quality. Would you mind if I asked the make of camera? Regards, David.

Thank you, David! My camera is a Panasonic G10 - one of those mirrorless micro 4/3's. I love it, but have nearly worn it out, so I'm eyeing the to be released Panasonic GH3.
all of the shots were good, but the ones with the dog were great! they make you smile as they are viewed. they stop you. they make you look. that is what a photog does. he makes people look. you have done just that.

Don't throw it out!
I bought 6'x6' of black felt from Hobbly Lobbly......
For temporary use, for now.
As you try different light positions, post. Why it works or not.
Us newbies need all inspiration we can get!
Tell us about the lights you are using. Where they can be bought.
I need to do that.
Just posted a link that describes some of the flash details for my self portraits.
Looking forward to more posts as you make adjustments!!!

What kind of dog is Hap?
Hi Wendy, Hap is a Portuguese Water Dog who thinks he is the love of everybody's life :)
Well I am sure Hap is right! By the way, I think your images are terrific!
I have 2 Labradoodles. My Emma, a black and white, is often mistaken for a Portuguese Water Dog, probably because she kind of looks like Obama's dog.
Aren't dogs the best ever? I get so much joy from my pups
How much does Hap weigh?

I like these shots a lot! Very nice. The addition of the pet coming in is incredible. Very nice job.
My fav is the third one. These are so nice. He reminds me of my Granddaughter's 3rd grade teacher! I think you have captured his likable personality too.

Thank you, Logos, I'm so glad you enjoyed them. Hap's mission in life is to keep us smiling - nice he brought a smile to you too! I can't take credit though - no one invited him to steal the show
:)

I love labradoodles too - such beautiful, fun, goofy dogs - at least the ones I've known! Would love to meet yours - please post pictures of them! Hap weighs 50.
